Dooley, William

Dooley, William (1932– )

American baritone. He studied at the Eastman School and in Munich, and made his debut at Heidelberg in 1957 as Posa. He was a member of the Deutsche Oper Berlin from 1962, notably in the premieres of Montezuma by Sessions (1964), Reimann's Gespenstersonate (1984), Rihm's Oedipus (1987), and Alamos by Neikrug (1988). He sang at the New York Metropolitan Opera House from 1964 as Amonasro, Eugene Onegin, and Telramund, and at the Salzburg Festival in 1966 in the premiere of The Bassarids by Henze.
