Dorat, Jean

Dorat (or Daurat), Jean (1508–1588)

French poet and classical scholar. He was the teacher of several members of La Pléiade and is sometimes counted a member of the group himself. As director of the Collège de Coqueret and professor at the Collège de France, he played an important part in stimulating the young humanists and introducing such writers as Pierre de Ronsard and Joachim Du Bellay to classical literature.
