Dorsten

City in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, on the River Lippe, 50 km/31 mi northeast of Düsseldorf; population (1994) 80,400. It has a large coalmine and a gasworks, together with factories producing wire, chemicals, carpets, and furniture.
