Douglas, Donald Wills, Sr (1892–1981)

US aeronautical engineer and manufacturer. After graduating from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he formed his own company. Building on the success of the twin engine D-3, Douglas Aircraft dominated domestic commercial air traffic until Boeing introduced the jetliner in 1958.

He was born in Brooklyn, New York. Before starting his own company, he worked as chief engineer for the aircraft manufacturer Glenn Martin.
