Douglas, Michael (Kirk) (1944– )US film actor and producer. Known for his portrayal of ordinary men in situations out of their control, in films such as Fatal Attraction (1987) and Falling Down (1993), he has maintained a consistent career in the Hollywood mainstream. He won an Academy Award for his portrayal of a ruthless entrepreneur in Wall Street (1987). His credits as producer include One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975), which earned him, with co-producer Saul Zaentz, a 1976 Academy Award for Best Picture. Douglas produced and starred in such films as Coma (1978), The China Syndrome (1979), Romancing the Stone (1984), and its sequel, Jewel of the Nile (1985). He also starred in Basic Instinct (1991), Disclosure (1994), The American President (1995), Wonder Boys (2000), Traffic (2000), and Don't Say a Word (2001). He married Welsh actor Catherine Zeta Jones in 2000.
