Dowd, Ronald (1914–1990)

Australian tenor. He sang in Australia from 1948 as Lohengrin, Florestan, and Cavarodossi, and at the Sadler's Wells Theatre, London, from 1956 as Grimes, Tannhäuser, and Idomeneo. He appeared with the Hamburg Staatsoper 1968–69, in the first performances of Searle's Hamlet and Goehr's Arden Must Die, and sang Aeneas in Les Troyens for the Scottish Opera in 1969 and at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London. He returned to Australia in 1973 and sang Pierre in War and Peace at the opening of the Sydney Opera House.
