Downey

City in Los Angeles County, southwest California; population (1990) 91,400. It is located 16 km/10 mi southeast of Los Angeles and 16 km/10 mi north-northeast of Long Beach. A suburb of both cities, incorporated in 1957, it has aerospace-related industries including the manufacture of aircraft and missile components. Metal products, textiles, agricultural machinery, brass fittings, and rubber goods are also produced.
