Doyle, Richard (1824–1883)

English caricaturist and book illustrator. In 1849 he designed the original cover for the humorous magazine Punch. He illustrated many books, among them William Thackeray's The Newcomes (1853–55) and In Fairy Land (1869) by the Irish writer William Allingham (1824–1889). He also painted landscapes, usually fantastic fairyland scenes.
