Draeseke, Felix (August Bernhard) (1835-1913)

German composer. He studied at the Leipzig Conservatory and with Liszt at Weimar. He later taught at Dresden, Lausanne, Munich, and Geneva, and finally settled in Dresden in 1876, where he became professor of composition at the Conservatory in 1884.

Sacred music Requiem; trilogy of oratorios Christus.

Orchestral five symphonies, overtures for orchestra, including Penthesilea (after Kleist); concerto for piano, violin, and cello.

Vocal Easter scene from Goethe's Faust for solo voices, chorus, and orchestra (1907).

Chamber three string quartets, string quintet; many piano works including a sonata.
