Draghi, Antonio (c. 1634-1700)

Italian composer. He began his career as a singer in Venice. In 1658 he went to Vienna, Austria, to take up a court appointment, and was appointed Hofkapellmeister in 1682. He was also a librettist for other composers, including Bertali, Ziani, and the emperor Leopold I.

Works

67 operas, including Timone misantropo, after Shakespeare (1696), 116 smaller stage pieces, about 40 oratorios, cantatas, hymns, and other pieces.
