Draper, Charles Stark

Draper, Charles Stark (1901-1987)

US engineer and inventor. He became head of the instrumentation laboratory at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1939. There he developed gyroscopes for weapons systems and, eventually, guidance systems for missiles and spacecraft, including the Apollo Moon project.

He was born in Windsor, Missouri and had degrees from Stanford, Harvard, and MIT.
