Dreghorn

Village in North Ayrshire unitary authority, Scotland, 2 km/1 mi southwest of Irvine; population (2001) 4,150. Coalmining and brickmaking are the principal industries. John Dunlop, the accredited inventor of the pneumatic tyre, was born in Dreghorn, and the Dunlop Memorial Hall contains documentary material relating to the invention, and murals illustrating transport progress in the past century.
