Droitwich

Town in Worcestershire, England, 9 km/6 mi northeast of Worcester; population (2001) 22,600. Droitwich lies on the M5 motorway and the Birmingham–Worcester railway line. Housing and light industry have developed as a result of overspill from Birmingham.

The saline springs, or ‘wyches’, of Droitwich have been used since Roman times and are mentioned in the Domesday Book. Their medicinal properties were realized in 1830, during a cholera epidemic. The saline water is now used in connection with the treatment of rheumatism and associated complaints.
