drop-down list

In computing, in a graphical user interface, a list of options that hangs down from a blank space in a dialog box or other on-screen form when a computer awaits user input.

To select one of the choices, highlight it and click. The list will disappear and the selected item will appear in the blank. If the list is longer than the space available, small arrows and a scroll bar will appear on the right-hand side.
