Drumcliff

Village in northwest County Sligo, Republic of Ireland; population (2002) 2,800. It is situated on Drumcliff Bay, 6 km/4 mi from Sligo town. Drumcliff was the site of a monastery allegedly founded by St Columba in 574, of which all that remains is a carved Celtic cross and a round tower. The poet W B Yeats is buried here.

Drumcliff lies at the foot of Benbulben Mountain. The epitaph on Yeats's gravestone is from his poem ‘Under Bare Benbulben’.
