Drury, Dru (1725-1803)

English naturalist. He amassed a large collection of domestic and foreign insects, and his writings did much to promote the science of entomology.

Drury was born in Norfolk. His ability as a naturalist was praised by many contemporaries, including Linnaeus. His main works are Illustrations of Natural History, 1770-82, Directions for Collecting Insects in Foreign Countries, 1800, Thoughts on the Precious Metals, 1801, and Exotic Entomology, 1837.
