Dubbo

Town in New South Wales, Australia, on the Macquarie River, 409 km/254 mi northwest of Sydney; population (1996) 30,102. It is the major service centre for the surrounding agricultural region, and incorporates industries such as the manufacture of building materials and agricultural machinery. The region's activities include the production of wool, wheat, hay, cotton, pigs, beef, and fruit and vegetables. Dubbo is also an important rail, road, and air junction. One of the area's greatest attractions is the open range Western Plains Zoo.
