Dubois, Théodore

Dubois, (François Clément) Théodore (1837–1924)

French composer. He studied at Rheims and then at the Paris Conservatory, where he won the Prix de Rome in 1861. Returning to Paris in 1866, he was active as an organist and teacher, and succeeded Camille Saint-Saëns as organist at the Madeleine in 1877. From 1896 to 1905 he was director of the Conservatory. His treatises on harmony, counterpoint, and fugue are still in use.
