Duck Lake

Town in central Saskatchewan, Canada; population (1991) 700. It is located 52 km/32 mi southwest of Prince Albert, to the west of the South Saskatchewan River. It is a farming community.

To the town's west, on 26 March 1885, Métis forces from Batoche clashed with North West Mounted Police from Fort Carlton (21 km/13 mi west-northwest, on the North Saskatchewan River), killing several of them. This skirmish set the military resolution of the North-West Rebellion in motion. Fort Carlton, an 1810 Hudson's Bay Company post, had been garrisoned by the North West Mounted Police to face the rebellion; it was abandoned and burned, but is now a (partially restored) National Historic Park.
