Duerk, Bertha (Alene) (1920- )

US naval officer. She served as a naval nurse during World War II and the Korean War. She became a captain in 1967, the director of the Navy Nurse Corps in 1970, and, in 1972, the first woman admiral.

She was born in Defiance, Ohio.
