Former county of west central Scotland, bordering the north bank of the Clyde estuary, which merged into five districts of Strathclyde region in 1975.

Dunbartonshire merged into the districts of Dumbarton, Clydebank, Bearsden and Milngavie, Cumbernauld and Kilsyth, and Strathkelvin in 1975. It is now part of the unitary authority of Argyll and Bute and of two others which bear its name – East and West.
