Dummer, Jeremiah (1645-1718)

US silversmith, engraver, and painter. Known as the first American-born silversmith, he completed a Boston apprenticeship with John Hull and went on to make some of the finest silver pieces of his time.

He was born in Newbury, Massachusetts. He is said to have introduced the ornamentation known as gadrooning, a series of curved flutings cut on the surface of silver.
