Dunaway, (Dorothy) Faye (1941- )| US film actor. She has enjoyed an uneven Hollywood career since winning Academy Award nominations for her roles in Bonnie and Clyde (1967), in which she played opposite Warren Beatty; the neo-noir (see film noir) Chinatown (1974); and Sidney Lumet's satirical Network (1976) (for which she finally won the Award). One of the most popular actresses of the 1970s, Dunaway played neurotic, highly driven women with sex appeal, often combining the attractions of power and mystique. |
| Her other films include The Thomas Crown Affair (1968), Three Days of the Condor (1975), Mommie Dearest (1981), Barfly (1987), the television movie Cold Sassy Tree (1989), The Handmaid's Tale (1990), Arizona Dream (1993), Don Juan DeMarco (1995), in which she and Marlon Brando play an ageing and endearing couple, and Dunston Checks In (1996). In 1999 she was awarded the Golden Globe as Best Supporting Actress in a series, mini-series or television movie category for her role in Gia. Later films include Yellow Birds (2001), The Rules of Attraction (2002), and Last Goodbye (2004). |
