Two English victories over the Scots at Dunbar, now a port and resort in Lothian.

27 April 1296 defeat by John de Warenne, Earl of Surrey, of Scottish king John Balliol. The defeat all but ended Scottish resistance to Edward I. Edinburgh fell shortly after and in July John surrendered his throne to Edward and fled the country.

3 September 1650 crushing defeat by Oliver Cromwell of a Scottish army under David Leslie supporting Charles II. Combined with Charles's defeat at Worcester the following year, it effectively ended Scotland's independence of action.
