Dundonald

Village in South Ayrshire unitary authority, Scotland, 6 km/4 mi southeast of Irvine; population (2001) 2,500. Two ruined fortifications lie in the vicinity: Old Auchans Castle, and the 12th-century stronghold of Dundonald Castle, where Robert II, the first Stuart sovereign, died in 1390.
