Dunrossness

Southernmost peninsula and parish of Mainland, in the Shetland Islands, Scotland; population (2001 est) 1,400. The parish incorporates Fair Isle. On the tip of the peninsula lies Jarlshof, an impressive archaeological site displaying layers of settlement from Bronze Age to medieval times.

St Ninian's Isle, joined to the western shore by a spit of sand, was the hiding-place of an ancient treasure trove unearthed in 1958. The area is referred to as the Ness by Shetlanders.
