French statesman and jurist. He was public prosecutor after the revolution of 1830 and president of the Chamber of Deputies eight times 1832–48, resigning when he failed to secure the crown for the young Louis Philippe d'Orleans (1838–94), Count of Paris and grandson of King Louis Philippe. His many works include Libertés de l'église gallicane 1824, which was placed on the Index Librorum Prohibitorum.
