Durant

Town in Holmes County, west-central Mississippi; population (1990) 2,800. It is situated on the Big Black River, 90 km/56 mi north-northeast of Jackson. Founded in 1858 on the Illinois Central Railroad, it is an agricultural trade centre.

Durant

Town and administrative headquarters of Bryan County, southeast Oklahoma; population (2000) 13,500. It is situated in the Red River valley, 69 km/43 mi east-southeast of Ardmore and 19 km/12 mi north of the Texas border. It is a trade and processing hub for cotton, peanut, grain, livestock, and oil producers. The town also manufactures truck bodies, cement, and clothing. It is home to the Southeastern Oklahoma State University (1909). Lake Texoma lies to the west.
