Durham Report

Report prepared by John Lambton, 1st Earl of Durham, as governor general of Canada in 1837. It proposed the union of Upper and Lower Canada and the introduction of responsible government. It is regarded as one of the most important constitutional documents in the history of the Commonwealth.

The report also advocated the establishment of local and municipal government and elected councils, and recommended the extension of education.
