A bull wapiti Cervus canadensis in North America. This deer uses its aggressive roar and tough antlers to fight other males for possession of females. The antlers are shed and regrow each year.

Species of deer Cervus canadensis, native to North America, Europe, and Asia, including New Zealand. It is reddish-brown in colour, about 1.5 m/5 ft at the shoulder, weighs up to 450 kg/1,000 lb, and has antlers up to 1.2 m/4 ft long. It is becoming increasingly rare, although the wapiti population in Yellowstone National Park, USA, was a thriving 25,000 in 1998.
