Dwight, John Sullivan (1813-1893)

US music critic. In 1852 he founded Dwight's Journal of Music, which over the next three decades was an effective, high-minded, and notably conservative voice in promoting European-oriented classical music in the USA.

He was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and educated at Harvard. He served as a minister and lived for a while at the socialistic Brook Farm Community before returning to his early love of music.
