Dyak

Member of any of several peoples of Indonesian Borneo (Kalimantan) and Sarawak, including the Bahau of central and eastern Borneo, the Land Dyak of southwestern Borneo, who are shifting cultivators of dry rice; and the Iban of Sarawak (sometimes called Sea Dyak) who are Malay-speakers living on the coast and along river courses, and grow irrigated (wet) rice and rubber. They are skilled sailors and live in an egalitarian society. They all originated in Sumatra and their languages belong to the Austronesian family. Some anthropologists now call all Dyak peoples Iban.
