dynamic data exchange

In computing, a form of interprocess communication used in Microsoft Windows, providing exchange of commands and data between two applications. DDE was used principally to include live data from one application in another – for example, spreadsheet data in a word-processed report. After Windows 3.1 DDE was replaced by object linking and embedding.

DDE links between files rely on the files remaining in the same locations in the computer's directory.
