Dyson, George

Dyson, George (1883–1964)

English composer. He wrote choral and orchestral music, including a setting of Chaucer's prologue to the Canterbury Tales (1931). In 1937 he was appointed director of the Royal College of Music, London, in succession to Hugh Allen, retiring in 1952.

He studied at the Royal College of Music and became music director at Winchester College in 1924, having already taught at Osborne, Marlborough, Rugby, and Wellington, serving in World War I between.

Works

The Canterbury Pilgrims (setting of Chaucer's prologue, 1931) and other compositions for solo voices, chorus and orchestra; orchestral, chamber and piano music; songs.
