Dziewonski, Adam Marian

Dziewonski, Adam Marian (1936– )

Polish-born seismologist. A member of the Center for Earth and Planetary Physics at Harvard University, he became chairman of Harvard's Department of Geological Science. He utilized seismic wave movement and geomagnetic soundings to determine physical properties of the earth's crust.

He was born in Lwów (modern Lviv, Ukraine), and had performed seismological research in Poland before joining the Southwest Center for Advanced Studies at the University of Texas in 1965.
