EBCDIC

In computing, a code used for storing and communicating alphabetic and numeric characters. It is an 8-bit code, capable of holding 256 different characters, although only 85 of these are defined in the standard version. It is still used in many mainframe computers, but almost all mini- and microcomputers now use ASCII code.

The controller uses data-movers to copy data via a bus or channel to another control unit and creates a second copy of the data converted to the proper data format (ECKD, FBA, EBCDIC, ASCII, etc.
Numbers in the EBCDIC format are often stored in a condensed fashion, referred to as packed.
Report Management converts ASCII or EBCDIC print data streams (sometimes referred to as COLD/ERM reports) into an indexed electronic report format and stores these reports within the document and content management system.
