EISA

In computing, one of several types of data bus created to improve on the original ISA (industry standard architecture) design introduced with the IBM PC AT microcomputer in 1984. The EISA bus adds speed and capacity because it is a 32-bit bus (ISA is a 16-bit bus), although it can still accept ISA-compatible expansion cards.

The EISA bus was developed by a consortium of PC manufacturers to counter IBM's proprietary MCA (micro channel architecture) bus in 1987, but it has since been superseded by the PCI (peripheral component interconnect) bus designed by Intel. See also local bus.
