Electra

In Greek mythology, daughter of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra, and sister of Orestes and Iphigenia. Her hatred of her mother for murdering her father and the fulfillment of her revenge through Orestes, made her the subject of tragedies by Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides.

In Euripides' dramatization, she took part in the slaying of Clytemnestra by Orestes.

Electra does not occur in Homer's naming of Agamemnon's daughters, but was identified by later poets with Laodice, who was included in his list.

Electra

Title of two separate tragedies by Sophocles and Euripides, produced in Greece about 410 BC and 417 BC respectively. In both plays Electra is devastated by the murder of her father Agamemnon at the hands of her mother Clytemnestra. With the help of her brother, Orestes, she takes her revenge, killing Clytemnestra and her lover, Aegisthus.
