Earlston

Town in Scottish Borders unitary authority, Scotland, on Leader Water, 8 km/5 mi north of Newtown St Boswells; population (2001) 1,700. Its traditional manufacture of tweeds and other textiles remains the principal industry.

An ancient ruined tower in the town was reputedly the abode of the 13th-century poet and seer Thomas the Rhymer (Thomas of Erceldoune).
