East Linton

Town and former burgh in East Lothian unitary authority, Scotland, on the River Tyne, 8 km/5 mi northeast of Haddington; population (2001) 1,740. The solitary hilltop of Traprain Law rises 3 km/2 mi to the south; it is the site of a prehistoric fortified settlement, inhabited for several centuries before and during the Roman occupation of Scotland.

John Rennie, the engineer who built three of London's old bridges (now demolished), was born in East Linton in 1761.
