East Point

Town in Fulton County, northwest Georgia; population (2000) 39,600. It is located 11 km/7 mi south-southwest of Atlanta city centre. The town is largely residential, with some light industry producing textiles, fertilizer, and metal products. It is home to Atlanta Christian College (1937). Founded in 1853 as the east terminus for the Atlanta & West Point Railroad, East Point was important in the 1864 defence of Atlanta.
