Eastman School of Music| US conservatory, in Rochester, New York, founded in 1912 and taken over in 1917 by George Eastman (1854–1932). It became part of the University of Rochester in 1921, with Howard Hanson as director 1924–64; he was succeeded by Walter Hendl, 1964–72, and Robert S Freeman from 1972. The Cleveland Quartet has been its quartet-in-residence. |
