Eatonton

Town and administrative headquarters of Putnam County, north-central Georgia; population (2000) 6,800. It is located 105 km/65 mi east-southeast of Atlanta. Writers Joel Chandler Harris (1848) and Alice Walker (1944) were both born in this agricultural and lumbering centre.
