Eberwein, Traugott Maximillian (1775-1831)

German violinist and composer. He was the son of a member of the Weimar court band, in which he played as a child. Through Zelter's influence he was much esteemed by Goethe. He went into the service of the Prince of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt in 1797 and became his musical director in 1817.

operas Claudine von Villa Bella (1815) and Der Jahrmarkt von Plundersweilen (1818) (libretti by Goethe), Preciosa (P A Wolff) and eight others; Mass; three cantatas; concertos, sinfonia concertante for wind instruments; vocal quartets; songs.
