Echols, Oliver P

Echols, Oliver P (1892–1954)

US aviator. He was chief of aviation for the US 1st Army Corps in France during World War I and chief of the Army Air Force's matériel division (1940–45). On retiring, he became chairman and chief operating officer at Northrop Aircraft.

He was born in Charlottesville, Virginia. While serving with the Army Air Force's matériel division, he helped build the largest and most powerful air force the world had seen.
