Ecija

Town in the province of Seville, southern Spain; population (1991) 35,600. It lies in the centre of the fertile valley of the River Genil, a tributary of the Guadalquivir. Shoes, food, and textiles are produced here. Ecija is called ‘the frying pan of Andalusia’ because of its intense summer heat.
