Eday

One of the Orkney Islands, Scotland, on the Stronsay Firth, about 15 km/9 mi northwest of Mainland; population (2001) 120. It covers an area 11 km/7 mi in length, widening to an average 2 km/1 mi. Agriculture is the chief occupation, and its main settlement is Backaland. The island has a small airport.
