Edgar, David (1940- )

English dramatist. After early work as a journalist, Edgar turned to documentary and political theatre. Destiny, about the extreme right wing in the UK, was produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1976. Other plays include The Jail Diary of Albie Sachs (1978); his adaptation from Dickens for the RSC, The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby (1980); The Shape of the Table (1990), on the collapse of the Eastern bloc in Europe; and Pentecost (1994).

Later plays include Albert Speer (2000), an adaptation of Gita Sereny's biography of the eponymous Nazi; The Prisoner's Dilemma (2001), a Cold War play about conflict resolution; and Mothers Against (2003). He also writes for television and radio.
