Edgbaston

Test-cricket ground in Birmingham, the home of Warwickshire County Cricket Club. It was opened inJune 1886 and first hosted a Test in May 1902. The ground capacity in 1998 was 20,000.

Edgbaston

Suburb of Birmingham, England, to the southwest of the city centre; population (2001) 20,300. Edgbaston is a residential district, and has the Warwickshire county cricket ground, where international test matches are regularly played. Birmingham University is also located in the suburb.

Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital, the Chamber of Commerce, and the city's Botanical Gardens are all sited in Edgbaston.

The 19th-century Roman Catholic theologian Cardinal Newman lived and worked at the Oratory of St Philip Neri in Hagley Road.
