Edison

Town in Middlesex County, east-central New Jersey; population (1990) 88,700. It is located 24 km/15 mi southwest of Elizabeth. In recent decades it has become a major corporate office centre, hosting businesses relocating from older urban centres. Menlo Park is within the township, which also surrounds the borough of Metuchen. Edison is home to Middlesex County College (1964). Originally called Raritan, the town was renamed in 1954.
